Jack and Vera want nothing more than to get away from each other, but that's not how soulmates work. Instead, they must find out how they ended up this way - together.
The unwilling companions are sent back to witness their lives on Earth, causing Jack's memories of war and isolation to return. As he watches their fates intertwine, Vera's power over him becomes clear and the bad blood between them rushes back. He must face his demons to escape her punishment, and she may not be willing to let him go.

GENRE: Speculative fiction thriller set in 1930's-1970's America
INSPIRATION: Ancient Greek concept of deep self-compassion, which precedes the ability to truly love someone else
The world's most beautiful music flows from broken hearts, and you have me to thank for it. But I suppose you won't.
You may know me already, if you’ve loved someone who didn’t – or wouldn’t - love you back. I am the scalpel that hollowed out their heart, allowing them to bruise yours. I am the finger pressing into that bruise from time to time, usually when you’ve just begun to move on, to put the pieces of yourself back together. You’ve started to imagine a different life, at last. But while you dream at night or drive past a familiar street, I am there to remind you of the life you had. Could have had.
You know, the one you wanted.
It’s my job to make sure you don’t forget completely, but I do not do this to torture you. I have a greater purpose, but am I ever thanked for it? Certainly not. No one is pleased to meet me. Without me, though, the world would be so different, and I am weary of being misunderstood. Unappreciated. The other Muses detest me – Love calls me cruel, while Hate is resolutely unimpressed.
You wouldn’t choose me and yet, I exist to all of you in some way, shape, or form. Most of you will ignore me, deny me, or push me away. You will treat me like a barren woman, fruitless and hopeless. But I am not barren, and I assure you, I am here. I am real. And I am coming for you.
I am Unrequited.
